ABOUT

The Madness Of Adam
The Madness Of Adam is the moniker of musician Andy Morritt, drawing inspiration from Nirvana, Audioslave, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails his brooding music quickly moves to dark places like all good rock should.

Born in middle England, he spent time in suburban southern England, Singapore and Australia before returning to settle in Southsea. His first foray in to music was inspired by his father, who played keyboard for his local lodge and listened to Frank Sinatra and Matt Monroe records. In the next room his mum was listening to The Carpenters and Shirley Bassey.

This diversity shaped his musical development and he absorbed music like a sponge. He quickly developed a knack for rhythm and using the drum machines in his multi layered organ, he learned to replicate Elton John’s piano style. His musical tutor observed that he was a natural, picking up songs at first glance without reading the notes.

During his adolescent years he remembers sneaking off to his room to listen to "Hit me with your Rhythm Stick", by Ian Dury & The Blockheads, always keeping the volume low so his parents didn’t turn it off! Ian Dury remains his biggest influence to this day... “I love the way they convey attitude and fun alongside tight musical performance…” explains Andy.

He admits being too nerdy and repressed to be a punk, but when a friend introduced him to The Damned it was another important moment in the development of his own musical style.

The diversity of his sound lends itself to single releases, allowing him the freedom to capture a mood or moment without the constraints of an album. Working in a fluid style alongside local musicians he has released three singles and two additional remixes. Video is a big part of his vision and he hopes to further develop his art in the future.
